Home to many international surf competitions over the years, Espinho can be average with some fun peaks for all levels when small, but it can get very powerful when the swell fills in.
It’s mostly known among surfers for the great “Casino Right”, a wave that breaks off the rocky groyne in front of the Casino and charges to the shore as a fast hollow right-hander. If it holds to double overhead, expect it to become challenging.
For other good surf spots in the northern region of Portugal try Matosinhos and Esmoriz.
