Bookings are made online at portugalsurfrentals.com. Our physical base is located on the Carcavelos boardwalk (next to Angels Surf School), but we deliver directly to you across Portugal.

We launched our on-demand delivery service in 2014. Marcos, our founder, is a former Portuguese surf champion who previously founded Angels Surf School, in 2002, and also launched Champion Surf Guide, in 2018.

• Summer (April–October): Costa da Caparica (south of Lisbon) offers long, easy and consistent waves ideal for learning the basics.
• Winter (November–March): Carcavelos (west of Lisbon) faces south, offering shelter from heavy winter swells while maintaining manageable waves.

Peniche is Portugal’s most consistent spot. As a peninsula, it works with any wind or swell. In a single day, you can find offshore winds and clean waves on one side, while the other side is big or onshore. This variety guarantees great surf sessions.

Carcavelos, São Pedro do Estoril and Guincho, and Costa da Caparica, on the other side of Tagus river.

The first name that comes to mind is Baía de Espinho. It features a right-hander with multiple sections, barrels, and carvings all on the same wave. Even though it is a beach break, the wave shapes up beautifully, breaking almost like a point break.

Ericeira – Europe’s surf capital. Features over 7 km of world-class point breaks like Coxos, Ribeira d’Ilhas, Backdoor and Cave.

Without hesitation, that place is Figueira da Foz. It features two waves of quality well above average. First, Buarcos, a kilometer-long wave that works like an authentic wave pool. The other spot is Cabedelo, located right at the mouth of the Mondego River.

When storms hit mainland Portugal, specific spots offer excellent conditions:
• With South winds: Head to the north side of Peniche, specifically Baleal. The south wind creates offshore conditions across 10 kilometers of beach breaks.
• With West/Northwest winds: The best place near Lisbon is Carcavelos, specifically the spot known as Santo Amaro de Oeiras

Water temperatures range between 15°C and 17°C (59°F–63°F). A 4/3mm wetsuit is recommended year-round (boots and hoods are generally unnecessary). A 3/2mm suit works well during warmer months like September and October.
